Xabi Alonso espera que Enzo Fernández participe en el partido de Chelsea en la EFL Cup frente al Luton Town, pero se mostró cauto al preguntársele sobre su futuro ante el interés continuo del Manchester City.
El exentrenador del Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, está decidido a convencer a Fernández para que aterrice en el Etihad Stadium como la última pieza de la remodelación del centro del campo del City.
El Chelsea había fijado como plazo el pasado viernes para que el City fichara al internacional argentino. Sin embargo, se dice que siguen abiertos a una venta si obtienen al menos 120 millones de libras y pueden fichar a un sustituto.

Fernández entró como suplente en la segunda mitad cuando el equipo de Alonso inició su campaña en la Premier League con una victoria 3-2 frente a sus rivales del oeste de Londres, el Fulham.
Y, aunque Alonso planea contar con Fernández para el jueves frente al Luton Town, de la League One, no dio garantía de que continuara siendo jugador del Chelsea tras la fecha límite del 1 de septiembre.
“Esperamos que Enzo participe. Está entrenando muy bien y estará involucrado,” declaró Alonso en la rueda de prensa previa al encuentro.
“We expect Enzo to be involved. He’s training really well and he will be involved,” Alonso told a pre-match press conference.
Asked if he would Fernandez to remain with Chelsea beyond the deadline, Alonso replied: “We want to have the best team possible.”
“We know his qualities, he has shown it and we have to wait, but we will think about tomorrow and let’s see how things develop.”
Chelsea have already made 11 signings in the transfer window, but Fernandez would leave a substantial hole if he did depart for City.
On the need for a replacement if a significant player leaves, Alonso said: “We assess the whole squad as a unit and in that squad we want good balance in terms of quality, in terms of positions, in terms of personalities, so we are aware of everything and we are prepared for whatever.”
